Play therapy
Through play, children learn about the world, themselves and their relationships, moreover they can effectively express their emotions and cope with their problems. Up to adolescence, children communicate about themselves in a non-verbal way more easily, and they present what is happening inside them through play and stories. The therapist and the children play on an imaginary stage, on the border between reality and fantasy, attuned to each other, so emotions can be processed in a safe relationship.
Joyful activities and play have special roles in children’s therapy. First, they can motivate children to participate in the therapeutic process. Second, experiencing positive emotions can open the way for them to reconnect to a healthy life.
